Abstract
The entire global economy had been thrown into a big turmoil due to the action or inaction of some big business executives and captains of global financial system.  It is also instructive that, with the burning economic issue being discussed all over the world, the firm is actually ripe to review the role of Human Resources Management and its contribution to corporate success in Nigeria in particular and African countries in general.  This paper aims at re-engineering the practices of Human Resources Management for optimal output so that the global economic meltdown will not destabilize the socio-economic and political system of the African countries and Nigeria in particular.  We examined the concept of the HRM, activities and roles of HRM, trends in HRM, a redefinition of HRM, and we tried to establish a link between HR strategies with the company strategy as it relates to Nigeria and African countries in general.

Abstract
Since Nigeria got her independence 1960, the struggle for political independence was accompanied by the struggle for the indigenization of the civil service. Consequently, the civil service was emerging as a work force in the Nigerian political arena as it was to become the critical link between our expanding world economies. Although, the myth of a neutral instruments of policy implementation have become the most accepted norms of the Nigerian successors to the colonial administrative apparatus. The demands of international capital on the new political structures had soon transformed the Nigerian civil service into an active initiator, formulator, and executor of the state policy. Today, in spite of its role in shaping the Nigerian policies, it still remained in its shell of anonymity, sharp malpractices and above all highly indiscipline. This development had led to the emergence of super Directors and permanent secretaries who assumed on excessive powers to themselves and their officers, and even became a giant force to reckon within the running of the government, with its size growing geometrically.

Abstract

The paper tries to examine the objectives of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) which include poverty eradication, education for the girl-Child, Health care for all, Gender equality and sustainable development. The specific issue discussed is the important roles of women and Vocational Education for the Girl-Child for the attainment of the MDGs in Nigeria. It argues that, although, MDGs is an externally packaged programme, it has some intrinsic values or benefits for developing nations like Nigeria, and that, these benefits cannot be achieved unless the roles of women are keyed into the programme. This can be done through the education of the girl-child, especially the vocational type. The point is that, it would empower women, ignite their passion for national development and give them a psychological lift devoid of emotions and sentiments. This paper concludes that, nothing positive can come out of the present MDGs without the inclusion of women and a better means of empowering. Any imputation to the contrary is a mere preposterous or blundering into the economic and socio-political sustainability in Nigeria.

Abstract
Nigeria has experienced high fertility and rapid population growth for at least the past thirty years. Only recently have public authorities launched efforts to promote contraceptive use. Great interest is taken today in population problems, both for social and economic reasons, hence family planning education. This paper looked at family planning education, the concept, processes and implications to man for his betterment in the society. We also evaluate the importance of family planning education and its contribution to national growth and development. Family planning means planning when and how many children one is going to have and how to prevent an unwanted pregnancy. It means working out plan with one’s partner on how one wants to deal with procreation within the context of sexual relationship. Family planning is of two major types; Natural and Artificial family planning. Information on family planning should be provided by service providers in various hospitals, maternity homes, and clinic and health centers. Couples should be educated on the need to have as many children as they can adequately care for in order to reduce the incidence of child abuse in our society.

ABSTRACT

The objective of this paper is to appraise the impact of public policies on entrepreneurship development in Nigeria.  The use of public policy to increase private sector participation in economic development is not new.  The economic policies of the Reagan Administration dubbed “Reaganomics” popularized it.  To focus the paper in the right perspective, we began by giving our operational definition of the concepts of public policy and entrepreneurship and reviewed the underlying theories of entrepreneurship.  The review of the relevant policies comes under five phases: The post independence pre-war period, the period of the Structural Adjustment Programme, the period of Economic Reconstruction and Grass roots banks and the current period of National Economic Empowerment and Development Strategy. The paper concludes that there has been lack of policy co-ordination and consequently not much impact has been made in entrepreneurship development by public policies.

Abstract
The paper looks into the impact of market research in the growth and development of business organizations with special emphasis on third world countries. Recognizing the relevance of research in business planning has become even more crucial in the current economic scenario with funding getting difficult as banks and other financial institutions are bound to put business proposition through a serious and rigorous assessment process. A market is the totality of the present and potential customers of a product or the totality of the market segment. Market research is defined in this paper as the process of gathering, analyzing and interpreting information about a market, a product or service to be offered for sale in that market. Marketing is seen here as necessary activity that involves the entire business and is vitally important to sound business health. Marketing consists of individual and organizational activities designed to facilitate and expedite exchanges so to achieve the goals of the producer/seller by servicing and satisfying the customer’s needs. The knowledge of the type of products or services to go into is one of the needs for market research. In addition, customer’s taste is discovered during research. Market research consists of primary and secondary research. Primary provides first-hand information while secondary research consists of secondary data. This paper concludes that market research provides the management with relevant, accurate reliable valid and current information, stressing that accurate and thorough information is the foundation of all successful business ventures because it provides a wealth of information about the organization’s task environment.
